Repetitive Strain injury Compensation

Repetitive strain injury, or RSI as it is more commonly known is used to describe a range of painful conditions of the muscles, tendons and soft tissues. Symptoms of RSI can persist for a long time, much longer than the symptoms of a normal strain would take. It is usually caused by repetitive use of a part of the body so is quite common in some workplaces such as factory production lines and offices where employees are working on computers all day.

Main causes:

  • Prolonged periods of work with no breaks taken
  • Poor posture at workstation
  • Holding same posture continually each day
  • Overuse of muscles on a continued repetitive basis
  • Cold temperatures
  • Vibrating equipment

You can make a claim for repetitive strain order if:

  • Your employer was aware there was a risk of you developing RSI but never informed you of this
  • They took no action to reduce this risk or prevent RSI developing

If you think you may be suffering from RSI you should consult your doctor immediately. Most GP’s do now recognise RSI as a genuine physical problem. You should also stop the activity that is causing the pain. In most cases this will be your daily job and you may think you can work through it. If you continue the problem will get a lot worse and result in you having to take much longer off work to recover. Treated in the early stages can mean a quicker recovery.
