Horse Riding Accidents
Horse riding is becoming increasingly popular in the UK.
With more people taking to the saddle each day the rise in equestrian accidents is also increasing.
Quite often these accidents occur at riding schools. The owners of these schools have a responsibility to provide a safe environment which will prevent horse related injuries.
Here are some common types of horse injuries:
- Being kicked or bitten by a horse
- Being thrown from a horse due to incorrect training, or from the actions of a driver on the road, or a pedestrian
- Receiving injuries from a horse box or trailer becoming detached from its vehicle
- Receiving injuries from a horse when you are a driver or pedestrian and the rider has not properly restrained the horse
- Receiving injuries as a spectator at a horse show or other event
It’s always important to gather as much evidence as possible following an accident.
- If possible, photographs of the scene of the accident including the horse
- Names and addresses of any witnesses
- Registration numbers of any vehicles involved
- If the accident happened at a stables or work ensure its recorded in the accident book
- If the accident happens in a public place or on a road, or is serious it must be reported to the police
