Railway Accidents
Railway accidents are not very common, unlike road accidents which happen on a daily basis, but they do still happen. The main types of railway accidents are:
- Collision with another train
- Level crossing accidents involving another vehicle
- Collisions with something or someone on the track
- Derailments
Railway accidents happen for many different reasons such as signal errors or failure, tracks that are damaged, vandalism, poor weather conditions and errors made by the driver of the train. If you have suffered a train or railway related injury that wasn’t your fault, for example it could have been the fault of the rail company, a railway employee or contractor you may be able to make a claim for compensation.
Injuries from rail accidents have included head injuries, fractures, burns and lacerations, sadly some injuries are fatal. But it isn’t just train crashes that can cause injury to passengers. Damaged train carriages have been known to cause injury to passengers. Damaged or broken seats and wet floors on trains have caused injury in many cases. If the facilities on the train are unsafe, then just as you would be able to with any form of public transport you may be able to claim compensation for your injuries.
Accidents can also occur at the station. All railway stations must be kept clean and hazard free. Facilities that are not regularly checked and maintained can be the cause of slips, trips and falls.
