Supermarket Accidents
Accidents happen all too frequently in supermarkets. The most common types are slips, trips and falls.
The supermarket has a responsibility to its customers to ensure that whilst shopping in the store it is a safe environment.
Some of the causes of accidents in supermarkets
- Spillage not cleaned up immediately, or area cordoned off with ‘wet floor’ signs
- Shelves stacked incorrectly which caused goods to fall.
- Food packaging left on shop floor
- Goods positioned on shelves too high to reach
- Defective shopping trolleys or baskets
If you have an accident in a supermarket always ensure it is recorded in the store accident book. Make sure the record is accurate before you sign it. Take details from any witnesses when the accident happens.
