Motorsport Accidents
Motorsports such as rally driving, go karting and motorcross are very popular in this country and the thrill of riding or competing at speed encourages many to take part and try out such activities. We should however appreciate the risk there is when riding at speed, be it for fun or competitively. The track owners and organisers of motorsport events have a responsibility and duty of care to ensure their riders safety. This is done by ensuring the following safety measures are taken:
- Riders are given instruction on how to use the vehicle
- Where necessary they are provided with the right type of clothing to wear whilst riding
- The vehicles and track are regularly inspected and maintained
- Only riders of the recommended age groups are allowed to ride
It isn’t just the participants of motorsport events that are at risk, there have also been occasions when spectators of motorsports have been injured. Instances where rally cars have crashed into watching crowds and go karts have come off the track smashing and breaking through the surrounding barriers.
Owners and organisers of any motorsport should ensure the safety of both participants and spectators. Failure to do this could result in them being liable if an accident occurs that could have been prevented.
If you have injured through no fault of your own whilst either attending, partaking or competing in a motorsport event you may be entitled to compensation.
