Abuse Claims
People can suffer abuse in many different ways, mental, physical, verbal or sexual. It can happen to both children and adults. There are many types of abuse claims that have been made including: child abuse, within the family and outside, physical abuse and domestic violence, abuse whilst in a care home, abuse of a disabled person. Whatever type of abuse has been suffered we understand it is a very sensitive area and that there will be a lot of anxiety and concern people will have when it comes to discussing these details with someone. If you were abused as a child or an adult, and whether the abuse was physical, mental, or even both, we can discuss claiming compensation from the person who committed the abuse, or the people or organisation that failed to protect you from being abused.
Any kind of abuse should always be first reported to the police. The police have specially trained people to deal with all kinds of abuse be it child, adult, physical, mental or sexual. One of our solicitors will be able to advise and assist you in doing this.
Compensation can be awarded either for the abuse or assault itself, for any psychological damage that has been caused, and the cost of any treatment or therapy needed. Sometimes loss of earnings can also be claimed.
The abuser could also be prosecuted in a criminal court and if found guilty would face whatever penalty the judge gave. You may also be able claim against someone else aswell as the abuser, their employer for example, but in a civil court. The CICA which is the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority may also let you make a criminal compensation claim.
