Emotional Abuse Compensation
Emotional abuse isn’t something you can immediately see the effects of. If a victim had been physically abused the evidence would be clear to see. The effects of emotional abuse however are just as damaging and painful for the victim.
Some things an abuser would do are:
- Publicly or privately humiliate their partner
- Not show any affection or approval
- Putting down or name calling
- Unreasonable jealously
- Lack of trust
- Control their partner through fear and threat
Emotional abuse is where the abuser inflicts emotional or mental distress by way of humiliation, fear, threat or some other verbal or non verbal manner.
Some abusers use children to emotionally abuse their partner. Threatening to take them away if their partner doesn’t obey them, or making their partner feel guilty about the kids are a couple of examples of this.
The effects of extreme emotional abuse can often leave the victim in need of psychiatric counselling and support. And whilst any financial compensation received won’t heal the mental scars of the abuse it will help you whilst on your road to recovery.
The first step is the most difficult, but this is one you have already achieved, and that is recognising you are a victim of emotional abuse and looking for help.
