Liposuction compensation

Liposuction is a procedure where fat is removed from deposits beneath the skin. The surgeon would use a cannula (small hollow stainless steel tube) and a powerful vacuum to do this. Liposuction can be performed under a general or local anaesthetic.

Whilst many people are pleased with the results there have been a lot of cases where mistakes have been made and patients have suffered. The case of Denise Hendry, wife of former footballer Colin Hendry was sadly a fatal one as Denise died in 2009 after a seven year battle with illness following a botched liposuction operation in 2002. Denise’s bowel had been perforated several times during her abdominal liposuction operation.

There are risks associated with liposuction which patients should be made aware of, these include:

  • Excessive bleeding-A small incision is made in the area where the tube is inserted. A haemorrhage may occur if the patient bleeds easily.
  • Skin scarring-This is where the tube is inserted at the incision point. This shouldn’t be too bad but some scarring is to be expected.
  • Uneven skin-There is a chance of this happening when fat is removed.
  • Infections-Fluids that are injected into the fatty area have the potential of causing severe infections.
  • Damage to organs-This is what happened to Denise Hendry when her bowel was perforated. A tube is inserted in the area of the body where the fat is removed. There is always the possibility of a problem occurring if an inexperienced surgeon damages vital interior organs.

If you have suffered problems following liposuction surgery you may be able to make a claim for compensation. Call Precision Claims on 0844 704 1945 or enquire online and we will call you back.
