Laser eye surgery
More and more people are having laser eye surgery each year as they want a permanent alternative to wearing glasses or contact lenses. This corrective treatment has had a huge degree of success and is now affordable to most.
However it has only been in use for around 20 years which means doctors and scientists have no way of knowing what the long term affects are.
Because the procedure is very invasive there are many risks which include:
- Corneal haze
- Night time glare
- Blindness
- Healing problems
It normally takes about an hour for the procedure which usually takes place in private clinics. It is the responsibility of whoever is providing the treatment to ensure it is carried out safely.
Not everyone is suitable for this treatment so pre-op checks must be carried out and all patients should be warned of any risks involved.
If youve had laser eye surgery and experienced problems you may be able to make a claim for compensation against the doctor or ophthalmologist.
